Scarpa, the history of Monferrato

In the picturesque village of Nizza Monferrato, in the south of Piedmont, there is the historical Scarpa winery. The winery has very ancient origins which date back to the second half of the nineteenth century, but it is in the 1950's that it has a new life, thanks to the work of Mario Pesce.

The talented and passionate Mario, after many experiences in Bourgogne and in Alsace, completely relaunched the winery under the sign of modernity and the search for the highest quality. He introduced, for example, long macerations and fermentations, aging in large wooden casks and, in particular, the art of long aging in bottle, and he started to apply his knowledge to Monferrato's wines.

This work has been carried on in time by his nephew Carlo Castino and now passed on to the current enologist Silvio Trinchero. Starting from 2018 Scarpa does not represent anymore only the high quality of Monferrato: with new lands in Verduno, La Morra and Neive the name of the winery makes its way also in the complex world of Barolo and Barbaresco.
