MoreGiuseppe Mascarello: fine and characteristic Barolo.
Giuseppe Mascarello's is a historical winery in Barolo. Giuseppe Mascarello's family had been involved in viticulture for more than a century and a half. In 1904, Maurizio, Giuseppe's son, bought a farmhouse in "MONPRIVATO" in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, transferring his business there and producing Barolo from the vineyard owned by MONPRIVATO.
In 1923, on Maurizio's death, his son Giuseppe took over the running of the business, and in the first half of the 1930s he decided to give up his job and devote himself entirely to winemaking. Today the company has been managed for about 60 years by Mauro Mascarello, his wife and two sons, who carry on a work based on precision, research and tradition.
It was Mauro himself to be one of the first to produce Barolo from a single vineyard. The winery extends on different vineyards for a total of 13 hectares: from the historical Monprivato vineyard, located in Castiglione Falletto and owned by the Mascarello family since 1904, to the vineyards acquired more recently.
The goal is to achieve excellence both in the cellar and in the vineyard, where yields are reduced (they must not exceed 60/65 quintals per hectare), short pruning, manual harvesting, selection of the best grapes, organic viticulture. In the Monprivato vineyard we also find a special selection of a clone of Nebbiolo Michet used for its great Barolo wines. In the winery we find the same attention with a careful look to tradition with long vinifications and aging in large casks.
Among the producers in Langa, Giuseppe Mascarello is undoubtedly the one who produces the most elegant Barolo with character, unique and recognizable. Wines from a historic winery that never ceases to fascinate.
